After much deliberation and reading plenty of reviews (both good and not so good but nothing outright awful), I decided yesterday to buy a Tefal ActiFry.

The main selling point of this kitchen item is that it makes crispy fried chips with a maximum of 1 tablespoon of oil (for a four portion serving), making it a healthier option than traditional deep fried chips or even oven chips.
I tested it out last night, I just couldn’t wait and the results were really good. Crisp chips with a soft fluffy middle with no greasy or oily taste left in the mouth after eating. I had them with a ham salad and some fresh baked baguette, the recipe and more information about the bread can be found here.
The ActiFry along with being able to fry other foods such as vegetables, prawns, scampi, chicken pieces, basically anything you want to fry; can also be used to cook items such as chilli con carne, ragu and curry.
Not a bad range of processes that’s for sure and it’s so easy to use too. It will be used on a regular basis I’m sure.

That really does look good. Just checked the baguette recipe which calls for 55 flour – did you use that? i was wondering if all-purpose flour would work too?

Hi, I did use 55 flour which I bought from Shipton Mill (if you’re in the UK they’re great btw). Otherwise use 2/3 strong white bread flour to 1/3 all purpose flour.

This is the second time I have read a review of this and it sounds amazing! A serving of 4 on just 1 tablespoon of oil is such a healthier option that I need to look into this. A much easier way to make fries (or chips!).

I haven’t heard of this machine until this minute. I admit, I don’t often make chips at home, it’s one of those things we save for the fish and chip shop meal. I look forward to hearing more about this invention in your blogs KG:)

To be honest Coby it was the allure of the chips that enticed me to look at the product more but I don’t eat ‘chips’ all that often, but will do baked potato wedges etc, feeling they’re more healthy … but Actifry seems even healthier.
I’m looking forward to seeing more delicious food from this
Bridgett American style fries (i.e. thin chips to us UK’ers) would be fabulous in this, I’ll test them out … maybe I’ll make ultimate burgers & fries?

I must look into getting one of these fryers…only 1 tbsp of oil is so much healthier. The chips look delicious.

You so inspired me I had to go and make my own oven chips from scratch – just a fine spray of oil over them and they too turned out crisp and grease-free. The actifry looks great, but will it earn the space it takes up in the kitchen?

I love gadgets – and this one looks great!
My Mum has one that she’s not used yet, I wonder if I could smuggle it out without her seeing?

Mrs W I’m sure this will be more than worth the small amount of space it takes up.

Really easy to clean Sam, just need to wipe it out with kitchen roll or give it a quick rinse.
